Introduction
Honeywell has announced a significant collaboration with Actrol to integrate its energy-efficient and low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant, Solstice® L40X (R-455A), into Actrol's condensing units. These units are commonly used in supermarkets, convenience stores, restaurants, and standalone equipment.
Reducing CO₂ Emissions
Honeywell’s Solstice technology dramatically lowers overall CO₂ emissions compared to traditional refrigerants. This partnership supports Australia’s goal of reducing carbon emissions from high-GWP refrigerants by 85% before 2036. Additionally, it aligns with Honeywell’s strategic focus on three key megatrends, including the energy transition.
Actrol’s Commitment to Sustainability
“At Actrol, we believe we have a responsibility to minimize our overall impact on climate change; this includes offering more sustainable alternatives to our customers,” said Sam Ansell, operations leader of Actrol. Actrol collaborates closely with suppliers like Honeywell to identify innovative methods for reducing their collective carbon footprint.
Innovative and Sustainable Solutions
"Across the globe, our customers are increasingly interested in opportunities to adopt new, innovative technologies that offer sustainable alternatives to refrigerants with high global warming potential and enable them to reduce their carbon footprints, while enhancing energy efficiency,” stated Leo Li, general manager of sustainability and decarbonization at Honeywell Advanced Materials, Asia Pacific. Honeywell's partnership with Actrol showcases Solstice® as a reliable, regulatory-compliant refrigerant that aids in meeting carbon emission reduction targets.
Investment in Solstice Technology
Honeywell has invested over $1 billion in the research, development, and capacity expansion for its Solstice technology. This technology has applications in refrigerants, blowing agents, aerosols, solvents, and is being evaluated for use in metered dose inhalers. Since its introduction in 2011, Solstice technology has helped prevent the potential release of over 395 million metric tons of CO₂ into the atmosphere, equivalent to the annual emissions of more than 94 million gasoline-powered passenger vehicles.
Conclusion
The partnership between Honeywell and Actrol signifies a crucial step towards more sustainable refrigeration solutions. By integrating Honeywell’s Solstice® L40X, Actrol is not only enhancing energy efficiency but also significantly contributing to global carbon emission reduction efforts.
